Trail’s End Bike Hotel is a mountain bikers’ paradise.  There are several MTB and hiking trails in the area which attract both novice and professional cyclists. The hotel is a friendly and spacious centre for those who wish to actively explore the Elgin Grabouw Valley and is ideal for a midweek getaway, a team-building workshop or a family weekend away. Trail’s End Mountain Bike Hotel is privileged to have some of the country’s top mountain biking trails right on its doorstep. If cycling isn’t for you, there are plenty of trails to explore on foot, and if you are willing to take a short drive, the Kogelberg Nature Reserve is worth a visit. You will be blown away by the spectacular views and experiences you can have in nature, whether running or hiking. They have the local routes plotted on GPS, which, once at the hotel, can be downloaded onto your device for easy navigation. They can also arrange bike hire for you.

Oak Valley is open 365 days a year during daylight hours only. The trails are top-rated, and they offer bike wash and shower facilities. Their courses were pioneered by legend Pieter Visser, who designed the routes to accommodate all skill levels. From the Racing Snake, Strava Hunter, Trail Blazer to the Weekend Warrior riding with his family, there is something here for every rider. Oak Valley is known for its groomed single track. Discover their famous sections like Stone & Steel, Fountain of Youth, and Sounds of Silence. The trail consists of a short blue route and a longer red route. The red route links to several black loops which cater for more advanced riders.  Riders pass through beautiful natural scenery, forests of ancient oaks, vineyards, fruit orchards, across cattle pastures, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Groenlandberg mountains. It is a world-class 5-star experience.

Paul Cluver is also a playground for mountain bike enthusiasts.  You can either enjoy the play park nestled amongst the fig trees or venture out on a selection of routes. The blue routes are undulating trails of jeep track. The red sections are a variety of single track, that includes beautiful fynbos, the famous bridges like Poffadder and Witklippieskloof and the rolling switchbacks in Mamba, Cobra, Jakkals, Pine singles and the berms. Riders have the option to choose how much single track to include. After your cycle, you can freshen up in the hot showers, located in the building next to the play park. Remember to bring your towel. Open 365 days a year during daylight hours only.

South Hill Vineyards also offer a 3.2km track, suitable for both walkers or mountain bikers to explore and enjoy.

What started as spring walks between Paul Cluver and the Wildekrans Country House turned into a more in-depth and meaningful, all-inclusive experience. It is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, get your daily dose of exercise, all complemented it with excellent food and wine to sustain your energy.

Wildekrans will also be your base from where you will experience the slackpacking routes. It is also a popular destination for artist who want to book a couple of days and be emerged into the beautiful gardens and magnificent pieces of art poised among the indigenous trees.

There are two routes to choose from, each offering a unique expression of the natural vegetation.

With the assistance of an accredited and knowledgeable guide committed to sustainable and responsible tourism, this four-day Green Mountain Trail traverses the Groenlandberg with its rich tapestry of fauna and flora.
