CONCERTS AND MUSIC PERFORMANCES

Old Mac Daddy will be hosting Sundowner Beach Parties at Daddy’s Beach and Bar every Friday night, escape to this magical hideaway deep in the Elgin Valley where you’ll find fresh air, great food, awesome views and funky Airstream trailers.

The Elgin Grabouw Country Club will be home to the Overberg Music Festival featuring on Saturday 30th Nov as part of the 2019 Son JolKol, featuring a range of artists such as International performer “Sybil”, as well as local talent Jarrad Ricketts, Loukman Adams, Salome Damon Johansen, Early B Music, Felicity Kiran Nxele, Ramaine Barreiro-Lloyd, The Rockets and so much more! Tickets for kids from 6 – 17 years are R70 , under 6 are free.

Paul Cluver Wines launches their forest amphitheatre concerts on 30th November with Desmond & the Tutus 30 November and Nataniel on 14th December 2019 . Join them in their spectacular woodland Amphitheatre for an extraordinary entertainment.

Elgin Vintners  presents Radio Kalahari Orkes on Sunday 15 December 2019. Bring the family and friends for a fun day out to experience the Afrikaans roots sounds of Radio Kalahari Orkes, when delicious picnic platters, gourmet pizzas and the acclaimed wines of Elgin Vintners will be served. Gates open at 10 am, show starts at 5pm. R120 per adult; under 15’s enter free. No BYO allowed.

TEST YOUR TRIVIA

The Elgin Railway Market presents their monthly Quiz Night: Wednesday 4 December 18h30 – R30 per person. Not only are the questions specifically designed to cater for both local and international patrons with trivia from all around the globe, but it also challenges participants by making use of cryptic messages and puzzles. Teams of six (this is the maximum group size) are asked 10 sets of 5 questions. Although the topics generally depend on the evening’s Quiz Master, contestants can expect to be questioned on anything and everything from geography and history to weather, music and movies.

The Grabouw 12hr Omi Dam MTB Race 7 December at the Elgin Grabouw Country Club – a good work out and a great party. The Country Club offers great amenities, a large stoep, overlooking the Oval Cricket ground which will be the Race Village, with the route running via the Village.

SALT at Paul Cluver is all about authenticity and focuses on quality ingredients cooked in an honest way. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 08h30 to 15h30 (last order). They’re also open on 16th December and are offering a five course Christmas Lunch for R650per person, with Salt Dough for kids to play and a kids burger and chips with a sugar cone and homemade ice cream.

Old Mac Daddy are seeing a Christmas Feast in the Barn, if you’re looking for somewhere fresh, fun and fabulous to celebrate the holidays, please join us in the Barn for a festive feast of note…. with festive vegan options to boot!

Hickory Shack – an authentic Texas style BBQ restaurant located on a scenic apple farm in Elgin, Grabouw with awesome mountain and forest views. We serve a variety of slow cooked meats such as pork ribs, brisket and free range chicken along with some unique homemade sides. Although we specialize in smoking meats, vegetarians will also find something to enjoy from our menu.

Rojaal – will be open for trade from Wednesday – Sunday (10h30 – 17h00) and Friday & Saturday Evenings.  The food, atmosphere and service at this restaurant harks back to days of innocence, goodness and generosity.

South Hill Vineyards are open for long, lazy and leisurely breakfasts & lunches with lashings of our delicious cool climate award winning wines. Vineyard Picnic Maze & wine tasting also available. French doors open onto spacious lawns which provide loads of space to have a game of croquet, kids & dogs to run, or to sip and savour a glass of crisp, cool climate wine overlooking an amazing sunset.

Wherever possible we source ingredients from our kitchen herb & vegetable garden and local suppliers. Our menu includes generous, delicious country platters and tapas accompanied with homemade breads and relishes. Daily specials and Sunday Feast lunches ensure seasonal variety.

Elgin Grabouw Country Club – will be open for trade on Wednesdays & Fridays: 17h00-21h00, Saturdays: 10h00 – 17h00 and Sundays: 10h00-14h00. Book in advance to enjoy a decadent Christmas Lunch Buffet menu at R365per person and R160 per child aged 6-10yrs, kids under 5 eat for free!

Elgin River Lodge: will be running the river barge and long lazy lunches on the lawn overlooking the beautiful river. Bookings are essential!

SHOPPING – LOCAL (is Lekker!)

All routes on the N2 lead to one destination, and that is Peregrine Farmstall. Offering an abundance of artisanal goods and wholesome, responsibly farmed, fresh produce. The seasonal menu focuses on café style casual dining in a relaxed but stylish venue, and for those wanting a quick bite for the journey, there is a selection of wholesome and healthy ready-to-eat meals too. Peregrine pies enjoy legendary status, with perfect pastry and generous fillings.

The shop showcases a variety of locally produced goods, from artisanal foods, fynbos honey to fresh cold-pressed juices and champagne style apple cider. The aroma of Peregrine’s variety of freshly baked goods fills the air and teases the senses. The wine shop stocks all the region’s top wines and ciders, as well as a growing selection of craft beer.

First of the fine farm stalls on offer in the Valley is the Orchard Farmstall  enjoy a variety of chunky farm breads, real croissants, mouthwatering pies, scones, muffins, old-fashioned apple tart and their famous chocolate mousse & baked lemon cheese cakes.

The shelves are lined with local produce, from honey, homemade jams and preserves including orange marmalade, passion fruit jam, pear and ginger preserve, pineapple jam, apricot jam, strawberry jam to quince jelly. There are local and imported teas on sale, and a number of arts, crafts and admirable gifts.

A bookworm’s delight at our local Liberty Books,  a carefully curated bookstore in Grabouw, Western Cape. Established in 2015, Liberty Books has become the central station for the Liberty Books Brigade: Burning Books and the Book Bus which are on display at Peregrine Farmstall and The Elgin Railway Market.
