We are proud to announce that five Elgin Wines were awarded 5* status at yesterday's launch for the Platter's 2019 South African Wine Guide. Five stars are only awarded to wines that receive 95 points or more out of a possible 100 internationally-ranked scale.
Huge congratulations to Oak Valley Wines, Paul Cluver Wines, Shannon Vineyards and Thelema Sutherland Vineyards on this amazing achievement.
In addition to their five star ranking, the Paul Cluver Nobel Late Harvest, Shanon Merlot and Thelema Sutherland Elgin Reserve Petit Verdot, were amongst the highest scoring five star wines in their tasting categories and therefore each awarded Wine of the Year awards.

Oak Valley Groenlandberg Chardonnay 2017
The Groenlandberg Chardonnay is hand-picked and sourced from our mountain block situated on a south-facing slope at an altitude of 430m. The high altitude, unique microclimate, and whole bunch wild fermentations, create a wine that is delicate, yet rich in character, carrying a strong sense of place. View information sheet.
Paul Cluver Riesling Noble Late Harvest 2017
The mouth feel is beautifully balanced and is full with a fresh acidity. The after taste is seemingly long and lingering. Great with desserts, but also great as a dessert on its own. Works well with cheese
and is excellent with foie gras. View information sheet.
Shannon Black 2013
The wine has a fragrance of ripe red fruits such as plums and dark cherries, with earthy complexity and yet still expressing minerality. View information sheet.
Shannon Capall Bán 2015
The Semillon leads with distinctive musky nose combining ginger, quinine, lime zest, cardamom in a minerally and flinty style. View information sheet.
Sutherland Petit Verdot 2015
An intense melange of white pepper, violets and dark chocolate on the nose that leads to a toasted tobacco and cigar box finish on the palate. A serious wine that would own a place in any cellar. View information sheet.
