Vrede en Lust purchased Casey's Ridge, a 90 ha former apple orchard in the Elgin Valley, in 2005. To date Vrede en Lust has planted well over 40 ha of vineyard in place of the 60 ha of apple orchards that were removed. Casey's Ridge possesses some exceptional indigenous fynbos and fauna. Located in the Kogelberg Biosphere, the first UNESCO proclaimed biosphere in Africa, its soils are very different to the granite based soils of Vrede en Lust and Ricton. Vrede en Lust produces top varietal wines and blends that are true to their terroir.
