Oak Valley

History:

Oak Valley Estate is an iconic fifth generation family farm, founded by Sir Antonie Viljoen in 1898, situated in cool climate Elgin.

Sir Antonie was a farmer extraordinaire. Amongst his many achievements was the establishment of the first commercial apple orchards, which remain the economic backbone of the region today. In 1908, he built the first wine cellar in Elgin using novel cold fermentation techniques.

Towering above our vineyard is the Groenlandberg mountain with its highest peak of 1,181m. The altitude, south-easterly sea breezes, cloud cover and cold winters make Oak Valley one of the top Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir producers in the country. These cool growing conditions allow for the gradual ripening of grapes, creating wines of delicacy, freshness, persistent flavours and balance.

Our restaurant is set alongside a turquoise pool.  Enjoy a flavour packed, global food experience for a culinary trip around the world.

For those with a sense of adventure, Oak Valley is home to some of South Africa’s most celebrated mountain biking terrain, taking riders through forests of ancient oaks, vineyards, fruit orchards and across open pastures. It’s a world class cycling experience.
