Here is a valley made for lovers. And there is undoubtedly something in the air that makes you fall in love with the valley itself. You will find tucked away cottages like Aanhouwen and Brookelands Stone Cottage, more spacious and self-catering villas on wine farms like the South Hill Guest House and Lothian House.  But be assured, your love will blossom like the apple trees.

It is beautiful to see how the Elgin Valley awakens from its slumbering winter season, coming back to life in waves of blossoms. Being synonymous with deciduous fruit, one can only imagine the dainty coat of pink and white as the pear and apple trees don their Spring attire. The same goes for the vineyards that are now budding, and soon its tiny fluorescence’s will also burst into mini bunches. If you thought February was the month of love, September to November is the season for romance.  Why not whisk away your loved one for a stroll through  the orchards or a picnic in the vineyards?  We have five suggestions to woo her off her feet.

Cheverell’s Farm has two romantic cottages that will steal your heart as much as you are trying to steal hers.  Decorated in a rustic French-chic style, absolutely everything from the furnishings to the scenery invites romance to blossom.  Take a stroll through the orchards to the dam, sip a fine Elgin wine and relish in the peaceful ambience.

If you feel a little flirty, the Paul Wallace self-catering cottages should be at the top of your list.  Greeted by an avenue of plain trees and rolling vineyards, the afternoon reflection of vineyards on the farm dam will set the scene for romance.

Kick off your visit with a chocolate and wine pairing, be introduced to the Little Flirt Sauvignon Blanc. The cottages are welcoming, tasteful and well equipped. Enjoy an outside braai whilst admiring the glorious evening sunset. No need to set your alarm. The rooster will announce the beautiful morning and urge you to stroll around the dam, hike to the top of the hill or simply smell the roses in Nicky’s rose garden. Four-legged friends are welcome guests too.

If you want to be a real stud, you can book your loved one a long weekend away at Belfield. The Stables Cottage started as a humble horse stable, turned Tasting Room, and more recently has been renovated into a romantic cottage for two. The beauty of this cottage is the stunning views over Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard to the Groenland Mountain range. Totally off the grid with no Wi-Fi. Go for it!

Have you heard about Old Mac Daddy? If not, this will undoubtedly rock your trailer. Creatives will adore these themed airstream trailers in the middle of nowhere, each designed with a quintessential theme that will make you smile from ear to ear.
