What’s new for wine lovers?
The good news is that all the wineries are back in full swing and ready to receive you with open arms! Although most of them cater to walk-ins, please give them a tinkle beforehand to avoid disappointment. As far as groups, restaurants or picnics go, be sure to make a booking. The beautiful surroundings and open spaces of this lush valley make it the wine destination of choice for wine lovers and novices alike. Although lockdown was a let-down or even a shut-down for many, wines estates are on the up with new offerings that you will love.
Elgin Vintners have opened a new tasting room – ideal for picnic and pizza lovers. It is also a family-friendly setting with a lush English country garden to enjoy at your leisure. They offer different tasting options, including a wine and cheese pairing. Be sure to taste their new Fynbos Lite Canned wine. The tasting room is open from 10:00 to 16:00 Wednesday to Sunday.
It was sad to see the restaurant SALT at Paul Cluver close during lockdown. But as some journeys come to an end, a new door opens for other initiatives to take shape. Watch this space as they are planning to open a new restaurant in the new year. Until then, visit them for a lazy wine tasting on their deck.
The tasting room is open Monday to Thursday 09:00 – 17:00 and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays 10:00 – 16:00. Reservations are advisable.
Paul Wallace Wines is usually only open on Saturdays unless you have made an appointment for a weekday tasting. However, they will be open every day, excluding the 25thand 26thDecember, from the 15thDecember until 10thJanuary 2021.
New to the Kevin King Range of wines at South Hill is the Three Sisters. This is a Chardonnay that will blow your socks off. And while you are at it, kick your feet back for a country-style breakfast in the vineyard maze. Your whole family will love it here. The tasting room and restaurant are open from Friday to Monday 08:00 – 17:00.
